This little elephant camp was like the Disneyland of Thailand, totally worth it though...I got to sit on an elephant and direct her where to go, the one I got was only 26 years old, so not as tame as the others :)
so, it's been one week since I got to Thailand, and it feels like a lifetime has happened to me.
my first few days were spent running around bangkok meeting with government officials, and CEO's of major companies trying to decipher their broken English about the cities poor urban planning and plans to make it better...(not that it matters it is only a few years away from all being underwater from warming right?)
the days were so filled that by dinnertime i was too exhausted to explore the city.
but, i did manage to go bowling one of the last nights in Bangkok on the top level of the Paragon which is this crazy shopping center. The bowling was like a nightclub with a live DJ and bartenders taking orders. I ordered my first "tower of Singha" (thai beer) its this huge clear container for beer, with its own tap. Like our own little keg, much bigger than ordering a pitcher and it's own cooling system on the bottom. it was awesome!
I am sorry i can't upload any pictures yet, the computers i am using are public computers in the hotel and cafes for about .50 cents an hour....oh yeah, did i mention how cheap it is here?
totally cheap.
I am in Chiang Mai now, way north of Bangkok. It is the best city ever, I have decided that I will be coming back to here. It is a small college city with wonderful weather and beautiful sites of temples and elephants and cool clubs to venture into at night
The king here was born on a Monday, so to pay respect everyone here wheres a yellow polo with the kings emblem every Monday, some people even more than that, I haven't been able to find any yellow shirts to fit Paul and I yet, but believe me, we will have them soon, anyone else want them?
i have some great pictures looking down at the streets and just seeing a sea of yellow, it's really amazing to see that.
crazy things that have happened so far:
Going to a goat farm to see a goat get it's head chopped off (not me personally, but a small group of people on the trip have some great pictures of it)
Seeing Cambodia refugees working in a very unsafe, chemically strong recycling plant for about 100 dollars a month.
Walking through a monk shrine and seeing a little monkey.
Watching a frog eat a big slug outside my door of the hotel.
Seeing more trannies and prostitutes giving themselves away for roughly 30 bucks an hour.
Pigeon, Cows eye, Blood Curry Soup, Chicken Feet, and many other delicacies on menus, but I have not had them all yet.
Ok, this post is super long, I will stop here for now.
P.S.
After I sign off, I will be leaving for my day of elephant riding and river rafting, jealous much? :)
I am going to Thailand tomorrow.
I am hungover today.
I haven't packed at all, and I don't think I'm ready to do it yet...ugh.
So, like 3 weeks ago I got a bug bite on my thigh, I didn't think much about it, I get them all the time, my skin sucks and is allergic to lots of things to, so when it started to itch and not go away, I thought it was some sort of allergy rash or something, but here we are 3 weeks later and it still itches like a mother and is really gross and ugly, I've been putting neosporin on it daily, which helps but not a lot.
So, I show it to these two ladies at work last night (I had to drop my pants and everything) and they think it's RINGWORM!
gross.
Even if it isn't, I am going to the doctor today to have them give me something for it, and confirm the theory that I have RINGWORM!
anyway...I just finished another final. It was at seven-forty in the morning, and I was finished by eight. Silly.
So I'm waiting for the student health center to open.
One more final to go!
(and it's only noon!)
i had a final this morning at seven-forty. it went freakishly well, i didn't study that much, and yet i felt like she was asking the easiest questions.
i had my hardest final scheduled today at 12:20. APH 314 with Morton, scary tests where you have to know dates, places, and write essays about buildings...so as I was studying in the library today with many other people this girl runs in saying that Morton sent out an email saying that the in-class final had been cancelled, and it was now an online test in the form of three essays in five hours!
too good to be true!
so i'm on the bick ride home happily humming to myself when i get to my block and see a little black dog running in the street...i wonder, is that olive?
then i see a big dog, with a curly tail run in the street...then i know it's my two bad dogs that have somehow escaped the house. but no big deal, at least they are still nearby.
i get close to the house and i see the front door wide open. explains how the dogs got out i suppose...but no one is home. i get the dogs in the house, and they are more tired than i've ever seen them.
nothing is missing, the door is broken open, no one is here...the mystery is still unsolved,
kinda creepy, but there doesn't seem to be anyone hiding in my closet, i still haven't check behind the shower curtain!
but, the best part about this is that the dogs are ok, i found Jack first sniffing a house the next block over, and only after calling him once, he came running back to me and into the house, and little olive right behind him. i'm so happy they stayed together too. yay! they do like each other!
So, now I'm about to start my online final, wish me luck!
after that i will be in the backyard pulling weeds and drinking some coronas until kickball :)
hopefully the day continues to be this weird because it's kinda fun!
